St. Mary's (Calif.) Holds Off Women's Soccer, 1-0
Youngstown -- St. Mary's Samantha Dion scored in the 70th minute and that was enough to hold off the Youngstown State women's soccer team, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.

With the loss, the Penguins fall to 2-2 overall and sawt their undefeated home match streak snapped at eight.

The Gaels, who defeated Horizon League foe Green Bay, 3-0, on Friday, improve to 3-0-1.

After a scoreless first half, SMC's Anyssa Dominquez lofted a center from the right corner and was just past the out-stretched arms of YSU goalkeeper Elizabeth Balgoyen. Dion was in the right spot at the right time and pushed a shot into the lower right corner for the match's only goal.

Balgoyen finished with four saves and faced five shots on goal.

For the match, the Penguins took five shots and two shots on goal while the Gaels had 13 total shots.

The Penguins also did not take any corner kicks.

Youngstown State continues its eight-match home stand when it hosts Central Michigan, Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
