Guins, Mitzel Surge on Day Two at HL Championships
Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - Allison Mitzel moved into first place on the leaderboard while the YSU women's golf team surged to second on Saturday during the second round of the Horizon League Championship at the Mission Inn Resort.

Mitzel was sharp for her entire round on Saturday en route to a one-under-par 71. Her mark would have tied the Horizon League record, but Loyola's April Ohlendorf shot a 70 on Saturday. Mitzel had a 77 on Friday and owns a two-round score of 148. She is one shot in front of Valparaiso's Kelly Voigt and two clear of Ohlendorf.

Mitzel had three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars. On the back nine she shot a 36 with birdies at 11 and 13, and had a bogey on 10. She is four-over-par following the first 36 holes and was tied for fourth following the opening round.

In the team standings, YSU has a two-round total of 624 and trails Detroit by nine shots. The Titans and Penguins both finished with 303 totals on Saturday. Detroit had a 312 on Friday while the Guins had a 321. Cleveland State resides in third place with a 631, Valparaiso is fourth at 633, Loyola fifth at 641 while Green Bay (663) and UIC (673) round out the field of seven.

The biggest mover of the day was freshman Emily Rohanna who is now in ninth place after starting the day 25th. Rohanna shot a one-over-par 73 on Saturday after carding an 84 on Friday. The 11-shot improvement vaulted her 16 spots in the standings.

On Saturday, Rohanna had a very consistent round with 15 pars, two bogeys and a birdie. She was one-under par on the back nine with her birdie coming at 12.

Sarah Heimlich posted an 80 for the second consecutive day and is tied for 13th with a 160. After a six-over-par front nine, she was solid on the back nine with just two bogeys.

Aislynn Merling improved four shots from round one to round two with a 79 on Saturday. Merling, who had an 83 on Friday, is tied for 17th with a two-round score of 162. She had three birdies on Saturday was two-over par on the back nine.

Sana Khan is tied for 24th with a two-round score of 168. Khan had an 87 on Saturday after a first-round 81.

The Penguins, Detroit and Cleveland State will all be in the final pairings with the first threesome teeing off at 8:40 a.m. Mitzel is in the final group which is set to tee off at 9:20 a.m.
