Penguins Cap Strong Year With Win Over UIC
Indianapolis, Ind. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team concluded a very successful year with a 4-3 win over UIC on Saturday afternoon in the fifth-place match of the Horizon League Championships.

The Penguins (13-9) finished the year with their most victories since the 1990-91 campaign. The come-from-behind win over the Flames was just the second Horizon League Championships win since YSU joined the league.

YSU dropped the doubles point so it needed to win four of the six singles matches. They were able to do just that as Silviu Mistrean (No. 1), Felipe Rosa (No. 3), Rodrigo Campos (No. 5) and Max Schmerin (No. 6) picked up victories.

Mistreanu defeated Alexandre Rea 6-4, 6-4 while Rosa beat Christopher Cole 6-3, 6-2. However, Sebastian Hagn dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Alan Reifer at No. 2 and Zeeshan Ismail suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback to Christopher Cole at No. 4.

Trailing 3-2, Campos dropped his first set 6-3 to Maurizio Feoli before rallying to take the next two 6-3, 6-1. Schmerin won the first set 7-5 over Rahul Kamath before losing the second set 6-4. In the third set, Schmerin picked up a 6-2 win.
