Basketball Visits Cleveland State in Crucial Horizon League Matchup

The Youngstown State men's basketball team heads visits in-state and Horizon League foe Cleveland State in a crucial game for both squads on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Wolstein Center.

Tipoff Notes
• Tipoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game can be heard on 570 WKBN-AM and iHeartRadio.
• The game will also be broadcast on Time Warner Sports Channel 311/1311 for HD and the Horizon League Network.

Last Time Out
• The Penguins dropped a hard-fought 88-77 decision to Detroit on Feb. 1.
• Junior Kendrick Perry led the team with 22 points.
• Junior Kamren Belin scored 19 points and made a career-high six 3-pointers to go aolong with seven rebounds.
• Senior Damian Eargle posted a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
• Eargle also blocked a season-high seven shots against the Titans.

Up Next
• The Penguins begin a five-game homestand when they host Loyola, Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Beeghly Center.
• Tipoff is at 7:45 p.m. and is the second half of a basketball doubleheader with the YSU women's basketball team, who plays Detroit at 5:15 p.m.

The Cleveland State Series
• This is the 79th meeting between Youngstown State and Cleveland State in a series that dates back to 1930.
• Cleveland State owns a slim 40-38 advantage in the all-time series and has won nine of the last 12 games.
• In the last meeting, the Penguins came away with a 73-59 victory at the Beeghly Center.
• At the Wolstein Center last season, Youngstown State came away with a 73-67 win.

Scouting Cleveland State
• Cleveland State is 11-12 overall and 3-6 in the Horizon League and is coming off a 77-66 win at UIC on Feb. 2.
• That win snapped a four-game losing streak, but the Vikings have still lost five of the last seven games.
• The Vikings are led by Bryn Forbes with 12 points per game.
• Charlie Lee is also averaging 10.7 points per game.
• The Vikings own a 7-2 record at home.

A Win Will
• Improve YSU to 14-9 overall on the year.
• Improve YSU to 6-4 in the Horizon League.
• Mark YSU's 39th win over Cleveland State.
• Mark YSU's seventh road win of the season.
• Mark Head Coach Jerry Slocum's 669th career victory and his 88th at Youngstown State.
• Mark YSU's 1,022nd victory in the program's history.

Belin Newcomer of the Week, Again
• For the second straight week, junior Kamren Belin has been named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Week.
• Belin set a career high with six 3-pointers  en route to a 19-point effort against Detroit on Feb. 1.
• He also added seven rebounds in a losing cause.
• Belin helped the Penguins topple Valparaiso, finishing with an efficient 16 points on Jan. 30.
• For the week, Belin was 9-for-15 from 3-point range.
• In conference play, Belin is averaging 13.3 points per game, hitting 44.7 percent of his attempts from beyond the 3-point arc.

"ARC"-hitechs
• Youngstown State made a season-high 11 3-pointers against Detroit on Feb. 1.
• It also marks the first time this season the Penguins made at least 10 3-pointers in game.
• Last season, the Penguins made 10-or-more 3's in a game on 10 occasions.

KP - 20/20 Vision
• With 22 points against Detroit, junior Kendrick Perry recorded his sixth 20-point performance this season.
• Perry, who has 18 career 20-point games, also had 28 against Valparaiso (1/30) and averaged 25 points per game last week.
• Youngstown State is 2-4 when Perry has scored at least 20 points this year.
• Over the last five games, Perry is averaging 17.4 points per game.

Belin is Booming
• Over the last five games, no one has been more consistent than junior forward Kamren Belin.
• Belin has averaged 18 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
• He has connected on 49.2 percent from the floor and 47.1 percent from the 3-point line.
• He is also averaging 3.2 3-pointers made per game during that span.

Eargle Nearing 1,000 at YSU
• The 1,000-point countdown for senior Damian Eargle has officially started.
• Eargle needs just 40 more points to become the 34th player in school history to score 1,000 points.
• Eargle has scored 960 points, including 277 this season, in his three-year career at Youngstown State.
• Including his 268 points at UNCG in 2008-09, Eargle has scored 1,228 points in his collegiate career.
• He would become the only player in school history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 250 blocks.

Allen Nearing 3's Mark
• With one 3-pointer against Detroit, senior Blake is within five of tying the YSU career 3-point record.
• Allen has made 193 career 3's and needs six more to break the record of 198 in three years.
• The record of 198 was set by Craig Haese from 1997-2001, in four seasons.
• Allen ranks second in the Horizon League with 55 3-pointers and 2.5 3-pointers made per game.

Web Gem
• Freshman Ryan Weber turned in a career performance against Detroit on Feb. 1.
• Weber hit two 3-pointers, scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds against the Titans.
• Weber has hit three 3's in the last two games after making just one in the first 20.
Eargle Approaching 300 Blocks
• Senior Damian Eargle has the chance to become the only player in YSU and Horizon League history to record 300 blocks.
• Eargle has 284 blocked shots, which are the YSU and Horizon League career records.
• Counting his 57 blocks at UNC-Greensboro, Eargle has reached 341 blocked shots for his entire college career.

Kam Craves League Play
• Junior Kamren Belin is making a case for an All-Newcomer Team selection.
• Belin is averaging 13.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game and shooting 44 percent from the field and the 3-point line in league play.
• Against league opponents, Belin ranks second in 3-point percentage (.447), third in 3-pointers made (21) and 3-pointers made per game (2.3) and 12th in scoring.
• Belin ranks second among league newcomers in scoring with 13.3 points per game in league-only games.
• Belin has scored in double figures in five straight and has at least 16 points in four of the last five games.
