Basketball Closes Wisconsin Trip Tonight at Milwaukee

The Youngstown State men's basketball team closes out its trip through Wisconsin when it visits Horizon League foe Milwaukee, Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Klotsche Center.

Tipoff Notes
• Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EDT and the game can be heard on 570 WKBN-AM and iHeartRadio.
• The Penguins are the only team in the Horizon League to play four of the first five league contests on the road.

Last Time Out
• The Penguins fell to Green Bay, 67-58, on Jan. 17.
• Junior Kendrick Perry scored a game-high 21 points with six rebounds and a season-high six steals.
• Senior Blake Allen added 10 points and made three 3-pointers.

Up Next
• The Penguins return home to start a three-game homestand against Wright State, Wednesday, Jan. 23.

The Milwaukee Series
• This is the 32nd meeting between Youngstown State and Milwaukee in a series that dates back to 1972.
• The Panthers own a 24-7 advantage in the all-time series, but the Penguins have won the last two meetings.
• Last year, the Penguins defeated the Panthers , 68-66, at the Beeghly Center on Jan. 20, 2012.
• Youngstown State was also victorious, 73-65, on Jan. 31, 2012, at U.S. Cellular Arena.
• YSU Head Coach Jerry Slocum owns a record of 5-9 against Milwaukee.

Scouting Milwaukee
• Milwaukee is 5-13 overall and 1-3 in the Horizon League.
• The Panthers picked up their first Horizon League victory of the year when it defeated Cleveland State, 69-57, on Jan. 17.
• Paris Gulley leads the Panthers with 15.9 points per game.
• Newcomer Jordan Aaron is averaging 14.2 points and 4.1 assists per game.

Back To School
• For the first time since 2003-04, Milwaukee is playing its home games at the Klotsche Center on a full-time basis.
• The last time Youngstown State played at the Klotsche Center was in 2003-04.
• The last time the Penguins won at the Klotsche Center was in 1991, 82-74.

A Win Will
• Improve YSU to 10-8 overall on the year.
• Improve YSU to 2-3 in the Horizon League.
• Mark YSU's sixth road win of the season.

DJ - Put the Needle on the Record
• Over the last four games, sophomore guard DJ Cole is averaging 9.8 points per game.
• Cole is also shooting 47 percent from the field, 57 percent from 3-point range and 86 percent from the free-throw line during that time.
• Sophomore DJ Cole turned in a career performance against Detroit on Jan. 10.
• Cole scored a career-high 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.
• He also made a career-best eight free throws.

KP Moving Up
• With 21 points against Green Bay on Jan. 17, junior Kendrick Perry moved into 24th place on the YSU all-time scoring list.
• He needs eight for 23rd and 15 more to move into 22nd on the list.
• Perry needs 33 more to become the 22nd player in school history to score 1,100 points in a career.

Allen Second With 180
• With three 3-pointers against Green Bay, senior Blake Allen became just the second player in school history with 184 career 3-pointers.
• Allen has made 184 career 3's and needs 15 more to break the record of 198.
• The record of 198 was set by Craig Haese from 1997-2001.
• Allen ranks second in the Horizon League with 46 3-pointers made and 2.7 3-pointers made per game.

To Catch a Thief
• With a season-high six steals, junior Kendrick Perry moved into the Horizon League lead with 1.8 steals per game.
• Perry also has a steal in six straight games, has a total of  18 and an average a 3.0 during that span.
• Perry also ranks third in YSU history with 144 career steals.
• Last season, he set the school's single-game steals record with seven against Loyola on Feb. 5, 2012.
• Perry also set the YSU single-season mark with 74 swipes last year.

Perry Among League Leaders
• Junior Kendrick Perry is having an all-league caliber season.
• Perry ranks third in the Horizon League in scoring with 16.3 points per game.
• He also fifth with 4.2 assists per game and ranks fifth with a .853 free-throw percentage.
• Perry is fourth in the Horizon League with 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Eargle Defensive Production
• Senior Damian Eargle is playing like a defensive player-of-the-year candidate.
• Eargle ranks fifth nationally and leads the Horizon League with 3.5 blocks per game.
• The Youngstown, Ohio, native is second in the league with 6.8 rebounds per game.
• He is also second with 5.2 defensive rebounds per game.
• Against Bowling Green on Dec. 1, Eargle grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, including 14 defensive boards.

Takin' Care of Business
• The YSU trio of guards of Blake Allen, DJ Cole and Kendrick Perry take care of the ball well.
• Combined, the three have dished out 167 assists compared to just 79 turnovers.
• That works out to an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.1.
• Allen leads the league at 3.4, Perry is fourth at 2.0 and Cole is eighth at 1.6.

More Millennium Man
• Kendrick Perry is just the 16th YSU player to score at least 1,000 points before his senior year.
• He became the 14th player to reach the mark during his junior season.
• Perry is just the sixth Division I junior to score 1,000 points at YSU.
• He also became just the 15th player since YSU joined Division I to score at least 1,000 career points.
• The last player to accomplish the feat was Vytas Sulskis (2007-11).
• The last junior to reach 1,000 points was Quin Humphrey in 2005-06.

Allen Among Nation's Best
• Senior Blake Allen is one of the country's best guards regarding assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Allen leads the Horizon League and ranks 10th nationally with a 3.4 assist-to-turnover mark.
• He has 51 assists and just 15 turnovers in 15 games.
• His averages are 3.0 assists and 0.9 turnovers per game.
• Allen also ranks 11th in the Horizon League in assists per game.

Two More Searching for 1,000
• With junior Kendrick Perry becoming the 33rd YSU player to score 1,000 points, seniors Blake Allen and Damian Eargle are trying to become the 34th and 35th players to match that feat.
• Eargle needs 113 more points while and Allen is 214 away.
• Eargle has scored 1,155 points in his college career, but 268 were at UNC-Greensboro.
• The last time two YSU players scored 1,000 career points in the same season was in 2000-01 when  Desmond Harrison and Craig Haese reached the plateau.

Eargle's Block Party
• Senior Damian Eargle already owns the YSU and Horizon League career blocks records with 264.
• Eargle has recorded a block in 19 straight games dating back to last season.
• He has also blocked at least one shot in 47 of the last 49 games.
• In his 78-game career at YSU, Eargle has tallied a block in 73 contests.
• Eargle also leads the Horizon League with 134 career blocks in league-games only.
