Soccer Hosts Detroit on Senior Day at Farmers National Bank Field

The Youngstown State women's soccer team closes out the regular season and will play tribute to its seniors when the team hosts Detroit, Friday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.

The Penguins (4-11-1, 2-4 Horizon League)will be honoring seven senior student-athletes playing in their final regular season game at Youngstown State. Those seniors are Heather Coonfare, Brittany Dowd, Taylor Gapczynski, Allison Ludwig, Rachel Morrison, Taylor Sebring and Cori Stark.

Last Time Out
The Penguins suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat at the hands of Horizon League leader Milwaukee on Oct. 26. The Penguins led 2-1, but the Panthers scored two goals in the final 12 minutes to escape with the victory. Senior Allison Ludwig scored both goals for the Penguins.

What's At Stake
The Penguins need a win and/or a Cleveland State loss to qualify for the 2013 Horizon League Tournament. Youngstown State still has a chance to host a first-round tournament game on Nov. 5, but the Penguins need to defeat Detroit and need a Valparaiso loss to Green Bay.

About Detroit
Detroit (9-7-1, 3-3 Horizon League) is currently fourth in the Horizon League standings with its 3-3 league mark. Alyssa Riley leads the Titans wiht six goals with four assists for a total of 16 points. Kaitlin Quarrell has five goals and Alyssa Lotito has been a part of nearly one-third of all 31 Titan goals with 10 assists. Goalkeeper Martha Dunbar owns a record of 8-7-1 with 75 saves and a 1.22 goals-against average. She also has six shutouts.

The Detroit Series
This is the 15th meeting between Youngstown State and Detroit in a series that dates back to 2000. Detroit has won all 14 previous contests against the Penguins, including a 2-0 victory last season in Detroit.

Ludwig Now In Top Five
With two goals against Milwaukee on Oct. 26, senior Allison Ludwig has moved into fourth on the career goals chart with 13, and into fifth place all-time on the YSU career scoring list with 30 total points. Ludwig, who scored her first two goals of the season against the Panthers, also fifth with 101 career shots.

Podolsky Now Second in Victories
With the win over Cleveland State on Oct. 16, junior goalkeeper goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky moved into second place on the all-time wins list with nine. She is three wins shy of tying and four win short of breaking the record of 12 set by Christine Handte from 1998-01. Podolsky also owns the career goals-against average record at 1.23.

Hohmann is Charitable
In less than two full seasons, sophomore midfielder Katie Hohmann has moved into the top six all-time for most assists. Hohmann, who has a team-best three assists this year, ranks tied for sixth with sven career assists.

Armstrong Proving Tough
After not scoring a goal as a freshman in 2011, junior midfielder Cara Armstrong has become one of the Penguins top offensive threats over the last two seasons. Armstrong leads the Penguins with three goals and six points this season. In 2012, Armstrong also totaled three goals.

Haney The Shot Caller
Junior Chelsey Haney is quickly moving up the YSU all-time shot chart. Haney leads team with 49 shots this season. For her career, she has 100 and ranks sixth all-time.
