Dowd, Haney Lead Soccer Past Cedarville, 2-1
Youngstown, Ohio -- Brittany Dowd and Chelsey Haney each scored goals and the Youngstown State women's soccer team snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Cedarville on Tuesday evening at Farmers National Bank Field.

The Penguins improve to 2-7-1 while the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-2.

Youngstown State possessed control of the ball for most of the first half, but the Yellow Jackets struck first at the 29:06 mark of the first half.

The Penguins were called for a foul in the box and Grace Miorelli tallied her fourth goal of the season on the penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead.

Seven minutes later, Dowd took a rebound from an indirect kick from Katie Hohmann and found the top right corner of the goal to tie the game at 1-1 with 8:56 left before the half.

The Penguins continued their aggressive offensive attack in the second half with 12 shots after the intermission.

Sophomore midfielder Karlee Kline entered a pass to senior Allison Ludwig who found a streaking Haney in the box and beat the goalkeeper in the lower right corner of the goal to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead at the 57:45 mark.

Junior goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky picked up her second win of the season and recorded three saves.

The Penguins open Horizon League play against Wright State, Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. in Dayton, Ohio.
