Pluchinsky in Fifth at HL Championships; Penguins Improve In Round Two

YSU carded a 303 on Saturday after firing a 310 on Friday and have a 613 for the championships. The Penguins are three shots behind Valparaiso (610) for fourth and trail Wright State (606) by seven for third. At the top of the standings is Cleveland State with a 597 while Oakland sits in second at 599.
YSU's 303 on Saturday was the second lowest on the day behind Wright State's 301.
In the individual standings, Brandon Pluchinsky made his move on Saturday. Pluchinsky had a two-under par 70, the lowest round of the day to move from 17th place up to fifth. He has a 149 after two rounds and trails Oakland's Evan Bowser who has a 144 through 36 holes.
Pluchinsky had four birdies and just two bogeys to improve nine shots from his first round 79 yesterday. He birdied six, eight, 10 and 14 to offset his two bogeys at nine and 12. He had a one-under-par 34 on the front nine and a one-under 36 on the final nine holes to get into contention for the individual title. He stood at two-under par through eight holes on Saturday.
Bill Gaffney sits in 12th place following a second round 77 and has a 152 for the event. He had a strong back nine firing a one-over 38. Gaffney birdied 14 and had two bogeys in his final nine holes. He was four-over par on the front side.
D.J. Holub had a three-shot improvement from round one to two and moved up five spots in the standings. Holub had a 77 on Saturday following an opening round 80. After a five-over score of 40 on the front side he was even par with a 37 on his final nine holes. Holub had birdies at 13 and 15 during his round.
Senior Bryan Yeo fell nine spots from 12th to 21st place after carding an 81 on Saturday. Yeo, who shot a 76 in round one sits at 157 for the tournament. He birdied 13 and 17 during his second round.
Steven Sveda improved three shots from the first round with a 79 on Saturday. He opened with an 82 and his total of 161 has him tied for 30th in the event. He had a one-over par 38 on the back nine on Saturday after opening with a 41 on the front side.
The final round of the event is set for Sunday morning.
