TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) -- Martin Ruiz ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns and Kurt Hess became Youngstown State's all-time leader in passing yards in a 35-24 Missouri Valley Conference win over Indiana State on Saturday.

Ruiz did all his damage before the game was delayed by weather late in the third quarter. By then the Penguins (5-1, 2-0) had built a 28-10 lead.

Mike Perish threw two late touchdown passes, the first of which included two laterals before Sampson Levingston covered the final 8 yards for the Sycamores (1-4, 0-1) to make it close. He finished with 392 yards and three TDs.

Hess threw for just 164 yards but only needed 6 to pass Tom Zetts, who had 7,728 yards from 2003-07. Hess also passed Zetts for No. 1 in total offense.

Ruiz scored on a 44-yard run and a 13-yarder sandwiched around a Jameel Smith 95-yard interception return for a 21-3 lead.
