Teams represented were the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaquars and New York Giants were in attendance. After the scouts took the players' measurements, the drills began. Shaw had 24 reps on the bench press while Cook, Stanton and Pratt each had 23. Mady did not bench, but had a 35 at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis two weeks ago. Cook had an impressive vertical jump at 40.5 inches. Shaw and Stanton each had leaps of 34.5 inches, Mady reached 26 inches while Pratt had 25.5 inches. In the broad jump, Cook had a leap of 10 feet, 3 inches; Shaw checked in 10 feet, 2 inches; Stanton posted a jump of 8 feet, 10 inches and Pratt had a distance of eight feet. In the 40-yard dash, the players lined up on the goal line. Shaw checked in at 4.73 seconds, Cook produced a 4.78, Mady came in at 5.32 and Pratt had a 5.41. Stanton slowed up after tweaking a hamstring on his first attempt. In the short shuttle, Cook had a time of 4.2 seconds, Shaw posted a time of 4.32, Mady clocked a 4.94 and Pratt had a 4.97. In the three-cone drill, Cook clocked in a 6.81 seconds, Shaw at 6.89 seconds, Mady at 7.65 seconds and Pratt at 7.76 seconds. "It was a good experience having all the scouts here and going through the drills," Shaw said. "I felt at home doing all the position drills and all the agility drills. The 40's just not a natural thing for really any football player, but it was a good day." The scout from the Giants worked with Pratt, Mady and Stanton on various offensive and defensive line drills. The scout from the Panthers worked with Shaw and Cook on route running and pass catching. Former Akron and Lake Erie quarterback Patrick Nicely also worked out and served as the quarterback for Shaw and Cook. Cook said the experience was like a job interview for all involved and that he was pleased with his performance. "I felt we all did pretty good, but there is always room for improvement," he said. "I didn't get all my numbers I wanted, but for the most part I think we did pretty well. The rest of the drills I feel very confident and I think I did pretty well." Mady was the Pro-Day veteran of the group having already been through some of the situations. He said Tuesday's workout was nice because he knew everyone he was working out with. "As far as the stuff I re-did from the Combine I felt that I did a lot better as far as that," Mady said. "At the combine I had some ups and downs, but I pushed through it. The days leading up to it were kind of tiring, but I pushed through that. Today I felt like I had another chance to prove my real numbers. I did better as far as that. Position drills, they weren't the best, but I feel like I made a statement as far as me playing another position and my position I'm regarding primarily at. All in all, it was a pretty good day." The NFL Draft is set for April 25-27. The last YSU draft pick was Harry Deligianis in 1998 by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Three times before the program has had multiple draft picks in the same year, the last time in 1984. |
