YSU Remains Perfect in HL Play With 5-2 Win Over Detroit
Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team defeated Detroit 5-2 on Sunday morning at the Boardman Tennis Center. The Penguins have won four straight matches and improved to 3-0 in the Horizon League.

YSU improves to 10-8 on the season with the win and 3-0 in league play. The loss was the Titans first conference defeat as they are now 11-8 and 3-1.

The Penguins won the doubles point by winning matches at No. 1 and No. 3. In singles play, Marta Burak won at No. 1, Dominika Lackova won at No. 2, Julianna Heino won at No. 5 and Sofia Marcias Mendoza won at No. 6.

In doubles, Burak and Heino won 6-3 at No. 1 while Lackova and Macias Mendoza earned a quick 6-0 victory. Detroit led 5-4 at No. 2 when the Guins clinched the point.

At No. 1, Burak defeated Sasha Nionova by a 6-4, 6-1 score. At No. 2, Lackova defeated Valeryia Kulikovskaya in straight sets by a 7-5, 6-4 count. Heino won the first set 6-2 against Nino Sujashvili and was leading 5-0 in the second before Sujashvili retired. At No. 6, Mendoza knocked off Viktoria Laskutova by a score of 6-4 and 7-5.

Annina Brendel and Nehel Sahni dropped matches at No. 3 and No. 4 to the Titans.

YSU returns to the court on Friday when it plays host to Cleveland State at the Boardman Tennis Center.
