Penguins Earn Dual Win Over Duquense

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season beating Duquesne 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Alpha Fitness and Tennis Center.

The Penguins (2-3) split the first two doubles matches with the Dukes (1-3) before Carolyn Jesko and Annina Brendel earned a 6-4 win at No. 2 over Judy Li and Alrissa Tobe.

In singles play, YSU won five of the six matches.

Margarita Sadovnkova continued her solid play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Li at No. 1. Marta Burak picked up an easy 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles over Zuzanna Stelmaszak. Brendel won 6-1, 6-3 over Spencer Caravaggio at No. 3 and Dominicka Lackove won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 over Sarah Shashura. Nehel Sahni won a hard-fought three-set decision at No. 5 singles. Sahni won the first set 6-3, dropped the second 6-3 and won the third-set 10-2.

The Penguins play their first home match of the spring when they take on Akron next Saturday at the Boardman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
