Lady Pens Penguins Pick Up First Dual Win at Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - The Youngstown State women's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over Dayton on Sunday afternoon at the Five Seasons Sports Club.

Margarita Sadovnikova, Dominicka Lackova and Nehel Sahni won in straight sets while Marta Burak, Annina Brendel and Gimeno Puppo won in three sets. YSU won the first two completed doubles matches to earn the point.

At No. 1, Sadovnikova defeated Sammi Hornbarger 6-2, 6-2. At No. 4, Lackova earned her first collegiate win by defeating Katie Shepherd in impressive fashion, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 6, Sahni also earned her first collegiate win with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Claire Herdina.

Burak battle back after dropping her first set 7-6 to Carly Peck with 7-5 and 10-5 victories at No. 2. At No. 3, Brendel lost her first set 7-5 before rebounding to beat Mandy Merchant 6-4, 10-3. Puppo also rallied for a win after falling in the opening set at No. 6. She lost 6-3 before winning 6-3 and 10-4 to defeat Erin Filbrandt.

In doubles play, Burak and Sadovnikova defeated Pak and Hornbarger, 6-3 at No. 1 while Lackova and Sahni won 6-3 over Filbrandt and Herdina.

The Penguins (1-2) are at Pittsburgh on Friday afternoon.
