Merling Tied For First After Two Rounds at Delta Gamma Challenge

New Braunfels, Texas - YSU women's golfer Aislynn Merling is tied for the lead after two rounds of play at the Delta Gamma Challenge hosted by Texas State at the Landa Park Golf Course. Merling is tied with two other golfers with the third round set for Monday.

Merling opened with an even-par 71 and was in seventh place after Sunday's first round. Later in the day she fired a two-under score of 69 to move up the leaderboard into the top spot. Merling is tied with Lora Assad from Texas State and UALR's Sabrina Bonanno. It was Merling's first under-par round as a Penguin.

In the team race, YSU fired rounds of 303 and 296 for a two-round score of 599. The second-round total of 296 was a school-record for lowest team score in a round while the 599 set a new 36-hole mark.

Emily Dixon had a second-round 71 after opening with an 80 while Emily Rohanna had rounds of 78 and 73 as both golfers are tied for 43rd with a 151. Allison Mitzel opened with a 74 before carding an 86 and sits in 66th place. Mia Barchetti is in 71st place with a 165 after rounds of 82 and 83.

Head Coach Nate Miklos said the Penguins had a solid and with a cool and rainy forecast for Monday, they can make a move in the team race.

"The team played great today," Miklos said. "They've put in a lot of hard work this spring and it's starting to show.  We really stepped up today and continue to make progress."
