Schlegel Repeats as Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month

Schlegel has earned the honor for the second straight month and for the fourth time in her career.
Schlegel averaged 18.3 points and 9.9 rebounds while shooting 49.5 percent from the field for the Penguins during the month of January. She was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Jan. 19 after a 25-point, 18-rebound performance versus Cleveland State. The Wapakoneta, Ohio, native also had 20-point efforts against Oakland and Milwaukee and double-doubles versus Wright State and Detroit.
For the year, Schlegel ranks second in the Horizon League with 10 double-doubles, third with 10.0 rebounds per game and fifth with 16.4 points per game. She became Youngstown State's career leader in made free throws on Feb. 14.
After her first semester in graduate school as an interdisciplinary communications major, Schlegel earned a 4.0 GPA. The fifth-year senior graduated Magna Cum Laude with a 3.73 GPA in the Spring of 2014 as a middle childhood education major. She was also announced as one of 30 Division I women's basketball players in the country to be named a Senior CLASS Award candidate. Schlegel earned academic All-Horizon League honors and was tabbed League Scholar-Athlete of the Month twice in the 2013-14 academic year. Schlegel has been a member of the Dean's list at Youngstown State and Horizon League Honor Roll each semester she's been eligible.
Youngstown State will take on Milwaukee on Thursday at 8 p.m. Eastern.
