The Penguin women posted 25.5 points in the race for the Horizon League's McCafferty Trophy, which recognizes the conference's all-sports champion. The 25.5 points by the women were the most in the school's 14 years in the conference, and no women's program had won more than four Horizon League postseason titles in the previous eight years.
In the combined sports race, the Penguins finished third with 36.5 points, which is the highest in department history. It is the second straight year that Youngstown State has finished in the top three, indicating how far its teams have progressed in recent years. Prior to last year's second-place finish, the highest finish was fifth in 2005-06. The Penguins were last as recently as 2011-12.
Oakland won the McCafferty Trophy with 56 total points and had the most points in both the men's and women's standings. Milwaukee placed second in the overall standings with 40.5 points, and YSU was four points back.
