"I'm really excited about the non-conference schedule we put together," Calhoun said. "This year's schedule is very fan and holiday friendly, but also very competitive. Along with our four home games, we have four away games just two-and-a-half hours away or closer so our fans will have several opportunities to support us on the road, which is important to us."
The Penguins' visits to Power Five conference schools include visits to Pittsburgh (ACC) to open the season on Nov. 6, at West Virginia (Big 12) on Dec. 1 and at Ohio State (Big 10), which finished the 2017-18 season with a 25-9 mark and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, on Dec. 18.
For the fourth straight season, Youngstown State will participate in the Northeast Ohio Coaches vs. Cancer Doubleheader and will take on Akron on Nov. 10. This year, Cleveland State will serve as the host institution.
The Penguins will host Heidelberg on Nov. 12 in the 2018-19 home opener before a trip to New York for an exempt-tournament at Fordham, Nov. 16-18. Youngstown State will face Columbia on Nov. 16, Fordham on Nov. 17 and FIU on Nov. 18.
A home game against Westminster on Nov. 21 precedes a return game at Robert Morris on Nov. 28. After the visit to Morgantown, W.Va., to face the Mountaineers, who went 26-11 last year, the Penguins host a pair of Mid-American Conference schools at the Beeghly Center. Youngstown State welcomes Central Michigan on Dec. 4 and Western Michigan on Dec. 8.
Youngstown State visits Binghamton on Dec. 15 before closing out non-league play at Ohio State.
The entire 2018-19 schedule will be announced when the Horizon League portion of the slate is finalized later this summer.
