Basketball Closes Road Swing at Detroit

Game Preview
• The Youngstown State men's basketball team plays its final of three straight road games when it visits Detroit, Sunday, Feb. 9.
• Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Calihan Hall in Detroit, Mich.
• The game can be heard on 570 WKBN-AM and iHeartRadio and fans can also watch the game live on the Horizon League Network.

Top Storylines
• Senior Kendrick Perry was named the 2013-14 Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year.
• Senior Kendrick Perry ranks sixth in school history with 1,799 career points. He is also the school's all-time steals leader with 233. He needs five more to break the Horizon League career record of 237.
• Perry is also the only player in school history with 1,700 points, 450 rebounds, 450 assists and 230 steals. He also needs one more points to become the sixth YSU player to score 1,800 points.
• Perry needs just 23 points to become Youngstown State's Division I leading scorer.
• Head Coach Jerry Slocum earned his 105th victory at Youngstown State with the win over WSU.
• Slocum has 686 career victories and ranks 35th on the NCAA all-time wins list. He also ranks sixth among active Division I coaches in career wins.
• YSU ranks 23rd with 191 3-pointers made. The Penguins rank 11th nationally with 383 total assists.
• Youngstown State leads the Horizon League in scoring at 78.5 points, 16 assists, and a 1.4 assists-to-turnover ratio.
• Kendrick Perry was named Horizon League Player of the Week and NBCSports.com National Player of the Week on Nov. 11.

Last Time Out
• The Penguins dropped their second straight Horizon League game after falling to Wright State, 77-67, on Feb. 5 at the Nutter Center.
• For the third straight game, sophomore Ryan Weber set a career scoring high with 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, including two 3-pointers.
• Senior Kendrick Perry scored 16 points with five assists and three steals.
• Perry moved into sixth-place on the YSU scoring list with 1,799 career points.
• Sophomore Bobby Hain just missed his second consecutive double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
• The Penguins also shot a season-best .944 from the free-throw line.

The Detroit Series
• This is the 36th meeting between Youngstown State and in a series that dates back to 1953.
• Detroit owns a 26-9 advantage in the all-time series.
• The Penguins snapped a four-game losing streak to the Titans with a 77-63 win at the Beeghly Center on Jan. 14.
• The last time Youngstown State won at Calihan Hall was on Dec. 1, 2011.

Scouting Detroit
• Detroit enter the game with an overall record of 11-14 and a 4-6 mark in the Horizon League.
• The Titans are coming off a 59-57 win over Valparaiso on Feb. 7,
• Juwan Howard, Jr., leads the Titans with 17.8 points per game.
• Evan Bruinsma is also in double figures with 12.5 points per game and leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per game.
• Detroit is averaging 71.3 points per game and allows 70.1 points per contest.

Assist Me, Please
• With 102 assists, Kendrick Perry became the first player in YSU's Division I history to record 100 assists in four straight years, and just the second player in school history to do so.
• The other was Terry Moore, YSU's all-time assist leader with 619, who had four straight seasons of 100 assists or more between 1973-76.

Weber Has Career Night, Again
• For the third straight game, sophomore Ryan Weber posted a career scoring high with his 21 points against Wright State on Feb. 5.
• Weber posted a then-career-high 20 points in YSU's 86-85 loss at Oakland on Jan. 31.
• Weber also tied career highs with nine rebounds and four 3-pointers made.
• It marked the fourth time this season Weber made four 3-pointers in a game.
• The other times were against Kennesaw State (11/8/13), Eastern Kentucky (11/10/13), and Milwaukee (1/2/14).
• He scored 18 points in YSU's win over Wright State on Jan. 25.

Hain Coming of Age
• Sophomore Bobby Hain has been making a name for himself over the course of his second season.
• During the last 12 games, Hain has averaged 12.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
• He has also made 60 of his last 102 field-goal attempts for a .588 field-goal percentage.
• Overall, Hain ranks eighth in the Horizon League with a .541 field-goal percentage.
• Hain, who has four double-doubles this season, has two double-doubles in the last 12 games and has posted at least six rebounds eight times during that span.
• Hain posted his most recent double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in an 86-85 loss at Oakland on Jan. 31.

KP In Rare Company
• According to the latest NCAA statistics, senior Kendrick Perry is one of two active players with at least 1,700 points and 230 steals in a career.
• The other is Chaz Williams from UMass. Williams has 1,809 points and 234 steals.
• Perry ranks 13th among active players with 1,799 career points and seventh with 233 career steals
