Basketball Closes Homestand Against Wright State

Game Preview
• The Youngstown State men's basketball team closes out its four-game homestand when it entertains Horizon League foe Wright State, Saturday, Jan. 25.
• Tipoff is slated for 7:05 p.m. at the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio, and is part of a women's and men's basketball doubleheader.
• The game can be heard on 570 WKBN-AM and iHeartRadio, and fans can also watch the game live on the Horizon League Network.

• The University of Akron announced on Dec. 14 that Director of Men's Basketball Operations and former YSU men's basketball coach Dan Peters began a personal leave of absence to seek treatment for pancreatic cancer.

• As part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend, our men's basketball staff will wear lapel pins with a purple ribbon – the color for pancreatic cancer awareness – and the words "4 Pete's Sake" in support of Coach Peters and his battle against pancreatic cancer.
• These pins will be worn by the men's basketball coaches of every school at which Peters has worked, as well as every school in the Mid-American Conference.

Suits and Sneakers
• As well as wearing lapel pins in support former Head Coach Dan Peters, the men's basketball coaches are wearing sneakers with their game-day gear to raise cancer awareness.
• The Suits and Sneakers initiative is a part of the Coaches vs. Cancer program in collaboration with the American Cancer Society.

Last Time Out
• The Penguins dropped a hard-fought decision to Valparaiso, 74-71, on Thursday evening.
• Sophomore Bobby Hain led four players scoring in double figures with 16 points and eight rebounds.
• Senior Kendrick Perry had 15 points while sophomore Ryan Weber posted 14.
• Junior DJ Cole added 12 points.
• The Penguins led, 36-27, at halftime, but the Crusaders shot 57.7 percent in the second half  while the Penguins shot 39.1 percent.

The Wright State Series
• This is the 48th meeting between Youngstown State and Wright State in a series that dates back to 1977.
• The Raiders own a 38-9 advantage in the all-time series. The Penguins have won the last two meetings at the Beeghly Center - 68-61 in 2013 and 61-54 in 2012.
• The Raiders have won the last two contests, 66-59, in the second round of the Horizon League Tournament on March 8, 2013, and 72-45, at the Nutter Center on March 2, 2013.

Scouting Wright State
• Wright State enters the contest with an overall record of 13-9 and a 5-2 mark in the Horizon League.
• Senior AJ Pacher leads the Raiders with 10.5 points per game while Miles Dixon is posting 9.5 points per game.
• The Raiders average 67.5 points per game, but allow a Horizon League low 61 points per game.  
• WSU has allowed just 51.5 points per game over the last two contests.

Hain Coming of Age
• Sophomore Bobby Hain has been making a name for himself over the course of his second season.
• During the last nine games, Hain has averaged 13.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
• He has also made 46 of his last 80 field-goal attempts for a .575 field-goal percentage. • Overall, Hain ranks eighth in the Horizon League with a .529 field-goal percentage.

Weber 3-Point Threat
• Sophomore Ryan Weber has been a definitive 3-point threat for the Penguins.
• Weber leads the Penguins with 44 3-pointers and ranks third in the Horizon League with 2.1 3-pointers made per game and eighth with a .407 3-point percentage.
• Over the last nine games, Weber has made 24-of-50 from behind the arc for a .480 3-point percentage.

DJ Lately
• Without question, junior guard DJ Cole has been improving his offensive production.
• Over the last five games, Cole is averaging 13.3 points and five assists per game.
• He now ranks fifth in the Horizon League with 4.1 assists per game.
• He is second with a 2.4 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Up Next
• The Penguins begin another set of three straight road games when they visit Oakland, Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.
