Penguin News
Coming off its best collective basketball season in recent memory, the Youngstown State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is pleased that fans can follow and engage with the Penguins across many media platforms in 2013-14.
Radio
Clear Channel Youngstown will again serve as the radio home of the Penguins with 570 WKBN as the primary station and 1390 WNIO as a secondary station. All but one of the YSU men's games and 21 of the women's games will be on 570, the area's top news talk station. The men will have their game on Nov. 9 carried on 1390, and the women will have at least six of their contests broadcast on the station. Robb Schmidt will return for his 12th season as the voice of YSU men's basketball, and Jim Campbell will serve as the home voice of YSU women's basketball for the 10th season. Zach Humphries will be the primary voice on the road for the women's games.
Additionally, fans can get the inside scoop on Penguins basketball with head coaches Jerry Slocum and John Barnes on the Penguin Playbook Radio Show on Mondays at 6 p.m. on 570. The show will be broadcast live from O'Charley's on South Avenue in Boardman. All games and the Penguin Playbook will also be available online and on mobile devices through iHeartRadio.
Television / Web Broadcasts
The Youngstown State basketball programs will again have the luxury of having all of their home games televised locally on MyYTV on a same-day tape-delay basis and streamed live on the Horizon League Network. WYTV sports anchor Chad Krispinsky will return to call all the action for all games, and Humphries and Jesse Potter will do color analysis. The tape-delay broadcasts will be shown at 10 p.m. on game nights, and men's games will be aired before women's games on doubleheaders.
The men's basketball team will also have several games televised on national or regional networks. The Penguins' contest against St. John's on Dec. 21 will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 while their game at Oakland on Jan. 31 will be broadcast on ESPNU or ESPN3.com. YSU will also host Cleveland State on Jan. 13 in a contest that will be featured as the Horizon League Game of the Week and air on regional cable outlets and ESPN3.com. The regular-season finale against Oakland on March 1 has been selected as a Wild Card option for the Horizon League Game-of-the-Week.
Beginning in January, Slocum and Barnes will give fans an inside look at their programs on the Penguin Gameday Television Show, hosted by the WFMJ sports director Dana Balash. The program will feature highlights, preview upcoming games and showcase YSU student-athletes and coaches. The show will air on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on WBCB: The Valley's CW.
