Perry, who is appreciative of the accolades, is not one to focus on individual success. His goals and priorities are, and always have been, team-oriented. "It's very appreciated," Perry said. "But at the end of the day, my sole focus is to put my guys in a the best position to win a championship. "With that comes the individual accolades, but for now, I'm focusing on one thing and that's winning a championship." Perry's list of preseason laurels are quite impressive: • Named the Horizon League's Top Player Midmajormadness.com. • Named 2013-14 Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year by Blue Ribbon Sports. • Named Top Ten Mid-Major Point Guards to Watch in 2013-14 by MidMajorMadness.com. • Named 2013-14 Horizon League Preseason Top Player by TheHoopsReport.com • Ranked #17 on Bleacher Reports Top 20 Mid-Major Stars in 2013-14. Coming off a 2012-13 season like his, Perry is more than worthy of those acknowledgements. Last season, Perry earned All-Horizon League First-Team honors for the second straight season after averaging 17.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He was also named to the All-Defensive Team after posting 1.9 steals per game. He also became the 33rd player at Youngstown State to score 1,000 career points and ranks 16th with 1,309 in three seasons. The Penguins open the 2013-14 season at the Kennesaw State Men's Basketball Tournament Nov. 8-10. The Penguins take on Kennesaw State, Friday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m |
