Wednesday, Mar 18, 2015 10:34 am
Youngstown State drops to 3-8 with the one-run loss, while Toledo improves to 6-13.
YSU's run came in the top of the first inning when Shane Willoughby plated Frank Califano with a two-out triple to right field. Toledo tied the score in the bottom of the second on Matt Hansen's two-out single, and the Rockets scored the only other run in the game on a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Jacob Britt reached on an error to start the inning, went to third on a wild pitch and single and came in on Josh Cales' sacrifice fly to center.
YSU left the bases loaded in the fifth, and Matt Sullivan was thrown out at the plate trying to score the tying run to end the sixth inning.
Califano, Sullivan and Josh Fitch each had a pair of hits for Youngstown State. Deion Tansel had two of Toledo's six hits.
Penguins starter D.J. Carr allowed just one earned run on four hits and a walk in four innings in the hard-luck loss. The win went to Toledo starter Alex Wagner, who surrendered a run on six hits in five innings. Both bullpens pitched four scoreless innings.
Youngstown State will at Bowling Green on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
