The Youngstown State volleyball team dropped a four-set match at Oakland on Friday evening in its first conference road match of the season.

The Penguins, who had their five-match winning streak stopped, got five kills apiece from Alexis Egler and Shannon Watson while posting 13 blocks as a team. Oakland held a slight .243 to .226 edge in attack percentage, but YSU committed six serving errors and had eight receiving errors.

Oakland, playing in its first ever Horizon League home match, got 12 kills from Cassie Pelloni in the 25-17, 27-25, 19-25, 25-19 victory.

The Golden Grizzlies scored five straight points to go up 11-6 in the first set and never led by fewer than four the rest of the way. YSU was ready to knot the match at one apiece when it led 24-20 before Oakland rallied. The Golden Grizzlies scored five straight points, and they followed a block by YSU's Jenna Cavanaugh and Shannon Watson up with back-to-back kills.

YSU scored eight of the first nine points of the third set and led comfortably throughout the 25-19 win. The Penguins were within two points of the Golden Grizzlies as late as 18-16 in the fourth set before Oakland scored seven of the final 10 points to win the match 3-1.

Youngstown State will play at Wright State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
