Ryan, a native of Novi, Mich., averaged 1.30 blocks over 10 sets last week as the Penguins went 2-1. She played a big role in YSU's victories on Saturday at the Red Flash Invitational when she posted seven blocks against Akron and five against Saint Francis U. Her efforts help YSU limit those two opponents to a combined .051 attack percentage.
Ryan ranks seventh in the Horizon League this season with 1.02 blocks per set, an increase from her 0.86 average as a freshman. Teammates Jenna Cavanaugh and Missy Hundelt rank first and fifth in the conference in blocks per set, and YSU leads the league with 2.57 per set. Ryan is also averaging career highs with 1.61 kills per set and a .278 attack percentage.
Ryan and the Penguins will play at Robert Morris on Tuesday evening before opening Horizon League play at home on Friday against Cleveland State.
