Men Jump Out To Lead; Women in Third Place at Indoor HL Track and Field Championships

After the first day of competition, the YSU men's team is in the lead with 67 points and Valparaiso is next with 41 points. For the women's side, YSU stands in third with 41 points. Oakland leads the women's side with 47 points and UIC is in second with 46.5 points.
Neu defended his title in the weight throw for the third straight year with a new Horizon League record of 21.10 meters. He joins Detroit's Matt Groh as the only three-time winner of the event.
Corbett takes home the crown in the women's weight throw with a toss of 16.40 meters. It was the first Horizon League title of her career.
Osborne placed first in the long jump winning her first conference title with a personal-best jump of 5.75 meters.
In the men's long jump, Tyree Ballenger placed second with a career-best leap of 7.09 meters and Isaac Agyemang was third with a career-long jump of 7.07 meters.
In the men's pole vault, Dylan Latone finished second by clearing a height of 4.45 meters. For the women's pole vault, Shelby Marken took fifth by clearing the bar at 3.45 meters.
In the pentathlon, Chenera Lacey placed fourth with a score of 3,327 points.
In the distance events, Ryan Sullivan placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:37.10 and Austin McLean was right behind him to place third with a time of 14:38.82. Alan Burns took sixth with a time of 15:00.29 and Nick Gliha was seventh to clock a time of 15:00.81.
Michelle Klim placed sixth in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:59.67.
The Penguins qualified a strong group of runners into tomorrow's finals.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims, Chad Zallow, Caleb Lloyd and Sam Shaviss all advanced in to the finals. Zallow ran the fastest time in the event with a time of 7.75 seconds.
Amber Eles, Shatasia Walker and Taylor McDonald all advanced in the women's 60-meter hurdles. Eles took first with a time of 8.58 seconds and Walker was right behind her with a time of 8.68 seconds.
Jennifer Shiley advanced in the 400-meter dash as she ran the second-fastest time of 57.41 seconds in the prelims. She will also advance in the 200-meter dash as she ran a time of 25.53 seconds.
The Penguins advanced four runners in the 60-meter dash as Leighton Antonio, Chad Zallow, Carl Zallow and David Rivers III all qualified for finals.
Antonio, Chad Zallow and Carl Zallow also moved on in the 200-meter dash.
In the women's 60-meter dash, Nina Grambling and Taylor Thompkins ran the top fastest times to advance in to the finals. Grambling clocked in at 7.58 seconds, as Thompkins was right behind her with a time of 7.735 seconds.
YSU advances Grambling, Keishawnna Burts, and Lavonte Powell in the women's 200-meter dash. Grambling placed first with a time of 24.78 seconds.
Jon Hutnyan will advance in the 800-meter run as he clocked a time of 1:56.31.
Agyemang is currently in the lead in the heptathlon with a score of 2,748 points and will continue tomorrow with the pole vault, 1,000-meter run and 60-meter hurdles.
The Horizon League Championships will continue tomorrow at 9 a.m. starting with the men and women's high jump. The first running event will begin with the mile at 1 p.m.
