Penguins Cap Strong Weekend With 7-0 Win

The Penguins won the doubles point by taking all three matches. Max Schmerin, Felipe Rosa and Sebastian Hagn won in straight sets to give YSU the win. Silviu Mistreanu, Dawoud Kabli and Rodrigo Campos all won in three sets lifting the Guins to the win.
With the victory, YSU improves to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in the Horizon League. Valpo is now 11-9 overall and 0-4 in the Horizon League.
The Penguins opened the dual strong winning 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, 8-5 at No. 3 doubles and 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
Schmerin was the first Penguin to pick up a win besting Brian Hickey 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Rosa followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win against Michael Baiochchi.
After some good back-and-forth action, the Guins sealed the victory when Hagn earned a hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 win over Chris Baum at No. 2.
With the match in hand, Kabli battled back for for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 win over Michael Savaglio at No. 3, Campos won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 over Lucas Waak at No. 5 and Mistreanu earned a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win over Eric Honert at No. 1.
The Penguins are back in action when they take on Duquesne on Thursday at the YSU Tennis Courts.
