YSU Gets Back on Track With 6-1 Win Over Oakland

Boardman - The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up an impressive 6-1 victory over Oakland on Thursday afternoon at the Boardman Tennis Center. YSU improves to 8-7 on the year.

YSU came out strong in doubles play against the Golden Grizzlies (2-8) winning all three matches. Marta Burak and Margarita Sadovnikova won 8-3, Lauren Hankle and Paula de Man were victorious at 8-4 and Carolyn Jesko and Annina Brendel won 8-3.

In singles play, de Man defeated Emily Raidt 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 13-1 on the campaign and she has now won six straight matches.

Burak won for the fifth consecutive time beating Tamara Blum 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. At No. 6, Brendel dispatched of Juliana Guervara 6-1, 6-1 while at No. 5, Hankle beat Grace Keating 6-0, 6-4.

In the final match of the dual, Sadovnikova earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 2 over Karine Celis.

The Penguins open up Horizon League play this Saturday against Detroit. First serve at the Boardman Tennis Center is set for 5 p.m.
