Sarah Dowd, Cali Mikovich and Miranda Castiglione all belted solo home runs for the Penguins who fall to 17-27 overall and 7-10 in the Horizon League. Green Bay (16-22, 8-9) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the game and went on to earn the victory.
The contest featured five home runs with two coming from Green Bay and three by YSU.
The first came from Alyssa Johnson who hit a two-out homer in the top of the second. In the third, the Phoenix struck for four runs off YSU starter Kayla Haslett. The big blow was a three-run shot by Miranda Spangberg which made the contest 5-0.
In the bottom of the third, Dowd led off the inning with a solo home run, her team-best ninth of the season. YSU threatened to cut into a 5-1 deficit loading the bases with one out off Heather Sanderson, but failed to score.
Green Bay scored twice in the fifth plating a run on a bases-loaded walk by Abby Brinkmeier and a double-play ground out that scored Katelyn Hummer.
In the fifth, Mikovich belted her second home run in as many games to center. It was her seventh on the season. In the seventh, Castiglione laced a homer to left center, but the Penguins could get no closer.
Haslett took the loss pitching three innings while Sanderson earned the win going six.
The Penguins finished with 10 hits, three by Castiglione and a pair from Dowd. YSU left nine runners on base in the contest.
YSU closes out its home slate on Wednesday with a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
