Softball Inks Five to National Letters of Intent

The Penguins signed Ashley Kozial (Willow Springs, Ill.), Hannah Lucas (Pickerington, Ohio), Cali Mikovich (Canfield, Ohio), Alexis Roach (Elburn, Ill.) and Kelly Thompson-Cappadocio (Ontario, Canada).
"We are really excited to have these five student-athletes join our softball program," Campbell said. "This is a group that has a lot of speed and helps fill voids will face due graduation."
Kozial, a pitcher/infielder, won 20 games with 172 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of just .221 during the summer of 2013 with the Wasco Diamonds. During her junior season at Lyons Township, she batted .344 with 11 doubles and a slugging percentage of .570.
Lucas, an outfielder, was named second-team all-conference and Special Mention All-Metro as a junior. She played two years on the Central Ohio All-Star team and batted .427 with a .549 on-base percentage. During the summer of 2013, she led her summer team in batting, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and steals. She batted .475 with a slugging percentage of .665.
Mikovich, a utility player, was named the All-American Conference Player of the Year in 2013 after batting .555 with seven home runs, 25 runs batted in and a .836 slugging percentage. Her 61 hits ranked 14th in the State of Ohio and she owned a 28-game hit streak. Mikovich set a school record with 32 stolen bases and was named first-team all-conference and first-team all-district.
Roach, an infielder, collected several honors as a junior in 2013, including all-conference, all-state, first-team all-area by the Kane County Chronicle and the DeKalb County Chronicle and second-team all-area by the Daily Herald.
Last season, Thompson-Cappadocio, a first baseman, batted .443 with 12 home runs and 13 doubles. She also drove in 58 runs and slugging at a .710 clip.
