Butler game

Non-scholly Butler is this weeks game. The Bulldogs are picked to finish 4th in the Pioneer League, a league they were C0-Champs   of last year. The year before YSU destroyed them as they also won the PL that year too.. They struggled to beat D-III Wittenberg 22-16, trailing 3-2 into the second half. They avoided a loss  by intercepting a pass in the last minute  as Berg was driving for the score and a potential win.

This is a game where all the players not redshirting should play to get some experience and build some depth. Apparently they have burnt the redshirt of Wells and you'll get to see their "new" star at QB. Probably other QBs too.

Should be VERY interesting.

I can't wait for our athletic marketing to promote this game as a contest against a 2013 playoff participant.  Affirmative action on the gridiron.   However, there are not enough misinformed casual fans left to absorb that propaganda.

This game will be ugly with a lop-sided score but I'll hold off till later in the week. It should be interesting to see who they play. Lots of issues to deal with in this game with some players.  QBs, CBs, & OL, as well as special teams.  Perfect game to see new faces in.  And "bone" up on coaching 101, lol.

Besides the game, its going to be a BIG reunion weekend.  A large group of former players will be in town. Mostly guys that played in the 90's. Should be fun to see some old TEAMmates.

Butler got waxed 31-0 in the opening game vs Tennessee St . TSU then got STOMPED in the next game by Eastern Ill. 51-10. Because the NCAA playoffs are now politically correct, you have people getting in that has no business being there. But that's the bastardize division that the FCS has become.  Do you have ANY idea how many games BUtler would win in the MVFC ?

Paladin, IT DOESN'T MATTER THAT THEY GOT WAXED.  They made the FCS playoffs, don't blame anything on their team.  And who cares how many times they would win in the MVFC....THEY DON'T PLAY IN YSUs CONFERENCE!!!!   It doesn't matter how any OTHER team makes the playoffs, they made it and YSU didn't.  And who's to say YSU doesn't get drilled in a first round playoff game?  We'll never know...BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T MADE IT. Get over yourself dude!!!  Sheesh!!!

I remember when we played FLAMU on the way to a national championship. They were pummeled by Hampton in conference play and Hampton got the auto-bid. We were beaten by FLAMU (even though the score said otherwise). They outplayed us in every aspect of the game, but we had the pick-6 to win.

Then in round-2 we had Hampton ...we beat them by over 40-points. Everyone was required to check their pacemakers as Tressel actually put in the reserves.

Last season Nania was knocked out of action twice, first as a holder on an extra point attempt at South Dakota then as a quarterback on a cheap shot by a NDSU player.  Now he goes down against Duquesne.  Not good.  Not good at all.  There is no way he should play until he is fully recovered, and certainly not at all against Butler.  Let's see what Wells, and then Davis, can do.  We will need them because it is highly likely that Nania, given his health track record, will not finish this season.

YSU can win using ANY QB on the roster against  Butler. In fact every player not redshirting should get play time in this game.

YSU played Hampton at home in the 1st round of the 97 playoffs. They then played on the road at #1 seed Villanova in the 2nd round, where they overcame a 21-0 first half deficit to win. In round three, YSU won at Eastern Washington and then beat McNeese State 10-9 in the NC game.

In 1999, YSU was the #9 seed and played at Montana. YSU won by 3, as the Montana kicker missed a chip shot on the final play of the game. That same week, the #16 seed North Carolina A&T upset #1 Tennessee State, enabling YSU to host NC A&T in round 2. YSU won that game easily. At about the same time, FAMU upset Troy at Troy. I believe FAMU was a #13 seed, which meant another home game for YSU.

You are correct that FAMU was dominating the game. The key word here is WAS. They were winning by 11 points at the start of the 4th quarter had the ball and inside the YSU 5 yard line. For some reason, the coach had a brain cramp, and called for a fade route. Their was a miscfommunication between the receiver and QB, and the ball went right to Tim Johnson. Tim proceeded to return the ball to about the 35 or 40 of YSU. A few plays later, YSU scored a TD. On the next possession, FAMU was stopped 3 and out. YSU got the ball, and scored another TD. They then stopped FAMU one last time and won the game.

FAMU did NOT win the game, nor did they deserve to win the game. A game is 60 minutes long, not 50. YSU won the game in a fashion that was typical during the Tressel era. In the same way TOSU won so many games with Tress as coach. FAMU lost the game in the fashion that has become all too common for YSU since Tressel left. YSU now finds ways to lose games, in the same manner they once found ways to win games.

As for the Butler game, who really cares? Best thing about this game is YSU ought to get a chance to play plenty of people. Hopefully they do not sustain any serious injuries in this game. Butler has no reason to be within 30 points of YSU. I know some people on here swear by Massey Ratings. His computer has final score of 41-10.... Sagarin Ratings, YSU is 104th with a rating of 62.97 and Butler is 230th with a rank of 37.71. Add 3 points for being at home, and YSU is favored by 29 points according to Sagarin

Great memory.   I was at that game in 99. We lost the next game to Ga. Southern.  I remember that most of the crowd left and went to the tailgate lot. Me and what seemed like a few hundred fans remained. Those that left eye not permitted back into the stadium.   I thought there was an onside kick in there that we recovered.  That was the best comeback win I have ever witnessed and it is the  standard I use to compare comebacks.
