Guins vs. Leathernecks
« on: October 15, 2013, 01:50:39 PM »
We need to stay focused & not slip.

  • WIU has a better defense than we have seen to date (except Michigan State).
  • They will have the best rushing offense than anyone we have seen so far. How unusual is that?
  • Their pazz defense will be just as good as SIU was. They have 9 INT's not including this past weekend, along with 7 sacks
  • They have really struggled on kick returns, but have been solid on punts. So we need List to continue with his MVP season.
  • They have 52 penalties, averaging almost 65 penalty yards per game. That is a guaranteed score every game.

Let's go guins and secure this victory!!

IAA Fan, nice try and, as you note, we definitely need to stay focused.  But Western Illinois is a bad football team.  Of course that has not stopped us from puking away a critical game (see Missouri State in 2011.)  What we must have here is a crisp, professional performance from all three aspects of our team.  Play hard and well into the third quarter and then get plenty of reps from our backups.  If we can do that, more fans might finally determine that Wolford has at last established his program.

Fan,

Their conference stats are a better tool for comparison's sake.  It removes the inflated numbers they put up against a 1-5 D2 team, and a terrible 1-5 Hampton.

A fair defense but not great.  Now that the YSU offense has learned to adjust over the course of the game, WIU will have problems keeping pace with YSU's multiple weapons.  They stop the rush (and it's hard for me to believe that they are that good), then we pass. Defensively, YSU is good at handling the run, and WIU isn't that good at passing, so our DBs may actually have a feast. Only team YSU can lose to this Saturday is itself. I really hope YSU uses the game to fix some of its problem areas before the bigger games come down the road.

YSU 42-17. Won't be much of a game.

Would like to see the defense hold them under 20 points. I'll be watching our defense very closely. Seems as though we struggle on the first drive of each game. Need to be ready from the first second of the game.

Well maybe SDSU had a bad game, but I see 31 rushing attempts by the JackRabbits against the Necks for a total of 109-yards. I see that SDSU has one rush for an 86-yard TD. So that tells me that WIU held SDSU to 23-yards on 30 attempts. SDSU only managed 3 rushing 1st-downs. We need to be ready for this team. Add two more INTs, and that brings WIU's total to 9.

Hope YSU keeps the pedal to the floor the entire game like they did with ILS.Western was leading Minnesota 12-7 till late in the 3rd QTR.We definitely don't need another game like the Missouri State disaster of 2011.
