Dayton Game
« on: August 20, 2013, 05:07:42 PM »
Hoping to see a packed house next Thursday night!!! Should be a great atmosphere. Time to get our first W against the Flyers, but let's not underestimate them. Gotta get off on the right foot!!!

Anybody know who the starters are on the defensive and offensive line??? I'm guessing Sirl and Terrell Williams are starters at DE. Octavius Brown and who else in the middle? O-Line we know Bryant at LT and Elkins at guard. Stephen Page at Center and Herdman at the other guard? Who plays RT?

Anybody see a depth chart for this game yet?  How many of the slightly injured will we hold out for this game?  It is mighty quiet for six days before the opening of the season.

Hearing Demond Hymes won't be ready for Thursday. Either gonna be Pace or Bellamy as the starter. Jody Webb and Martin Ruiz might get some playing time as well.

I'm trying to move comments about the Dayton game back here and away from that MSU thread.

ScarletRook,

To answer your question about why we should win comfortably: we are bigger, stronger, and faster at virtually every position.  For example, the weights of the Dayton offensive and defensive lines (from their own media release.)

O-Line, from tackle to tackle: 270 - 280 - 265 - 270 - 240

D-Line, the front in their 4-3 alignment: 230 - 240- 240 - 220

Good luck trying to play with that!

Wick

Thanks for the information.
This is my 2nd football season back within driving distance
and I am excited for the opener.  No connections to YSU
except I used to live in the area and attend games years ago,
but already have gameday jitters.  Will make the 2 + hr drive
Thursday so it will be a short night.  GO GUINS

I've been looking forward to a YSU-Dayton matchup for a long time.  There was a Dayton fan who posted on here from time to time who was very confident Dayton could play with or even beat YSU.  I tried to explain to him that the top tier DIII teams would beat Dayton since that's what they basically are.

From College Sports Madness:

Dayton at #23 Youngstown State, Thursday, 7:30

A battle of two lesser-known Ohio football teams concludes the Thursday schedule, but Youngstown State is no lightweight team. Youngstown State went 7-4 last year and split its MVFC schedule equally at 4-4. Youngstown State has lost nine straight matches to Dayton, so the team is hungry to make sure the 10th loss in a row does not take place. Dayton competes in the Pioneer League for football and there the Flyers went 5-3 (6-5 overall). Will the 10th time be the charm?

Projected Score: Dayton 27, Youngstown State 20

A good friend has a nephew that plays for Dayton.
He said they (Flyers) don't believe we can stop their offense
and their defense can hold us under 24 points.
Even went as far as to call of D-line a bunch of slugs.  WOW

Understanding that computer rankings leave a lot to be desired this early in the year:

Sagarin has YSU a 25 point favorite

Massey projects a 37-7 YSU win (he has YSU as #8 in FCS, but #5 in the Valley.  He clearly likes the Valley.

Dunkle Index has YSU as 27 1/2 point favorite.
