Ladies vs. Detroit

Tonight scares me. We do not match up well against UDM, and we are short. We need this win, as UWGB is going to give a W to Loyola.

Do not count on a win against Detroit. Brandi Brown left the game with what appeared to be an ankle injury with about 7-8 minutes to go in the first half. It is now 2nd half, and Brandi has not been back in the game. YSU trails 36-26.

GB is leading Loyola 21-10 with about 9 minutes left in the 1sr half. So, things are looking goodfor YSU to finish alone in 2nd place, even with a loss at Detroit.

Just hope Brandi is able to play in the HL Tournament.

oh no, i wondered why she was not in there. we are being embarrassed right now. i cannot watch. we just shoot hopeless 3-pointers and have not hit on in the last 9 tries. udm has 15 turnovers in the second half an we actually fell further behind

Embarrassed? YSU started this game without 2 of their best players, and played the final 27+ minutes of this game without their top 3 players, including the likely POY in the HL. And, despite all of that, YSU only lost 62-48 on the road. Detroit is a good team and 16-11/9-6. With their win and a loss by Loyola, Detroit will be in a tie third for 3rd place with Loyola.

I watched the game. It was far from pretty, even when Brandi was playing. When she went out, I honestly thought YSU might lose by 30+ points. Without Brandi, YSU had no post players. They were down to 7 healthy players, 4 of whom are Frosh, with one of those players being a walk-on. And, the tallest player was at best 5'9".

Brandi left the game with about 7:30 left in the first half, and Detroit ahead 19-16. Without Brandi, Karen and Heidi, the other 8 players somehow managed to keep the outcome very respectable. I mean, at halftime, Detroit only led by 8 points 29-21. And, the 2nd half, Detroit only outscored YSU by 6 points. How is that being "embarrassed" given the circumstances?

I give this YSU team alot of credit for keeping the game as close as they did. It would have been easy for the players to just quit. Just go through the motions and hope GB beats Loyola. Hang their heads and say "here we go again with injuries" and/or "what is the use in playing without Brandi". But, to their credit, that did not happen. This says alot about the players and also the coaching staff. Was not to long ago that YSU was getting beat consistently on the road by 20 or more points. The lead was only 8 with 4:30 left in the game. Was obvious Detroit was going to win, but they still had to EARN this victory.

GB is beating Loyola 52-30 with 8 minutes left. Safe to say GB is going to win this game.

Thus, YSU will finish 21-8/11-7 and outright 2nd place in the HL..... GREAT SEASON!!!!

GB up by 20 with 11:00 to play, All thing considered a 14 point loss to a decent team on the road with out three starters is not that bad.

Up side is that bench players are getting some great minutes.

Any word on how Brandi is?

Horrible news for Brandi. Hopefully all 3 (Brandi, Heidi and Karen) are back for Wednesday! Need them to get deep in the tourney

guinpen and ysu0505, I totally agree with your posts. I do not live in the Ytown area and watched the game on HL Network with Detroit announcers. So, no real idea how Brandi is doing. When she left the court, she was not putting any pressure on the ankle/foot.

At first, I thought it may have been her knee. Then, after watching the replay, it was apparent it's her ankle or foot. Brandi was in the post and YSU had the ball. A player from Detroit had their foot come down on Brandi's toes as she was making a move to the basket, and that led to the ankle twisting. Once Brandi went out, I knew she was done for the game. No way was Boldon going to risk doing further damage to the injury, even if Brandi had told him she was able to play(at least not in my opinion).

Maybe if there was a person or persons listening on the radio, then the YSU radio announcer may have had more info on Brandi. My guess though is it is something where she will be fully evaluated upon returning to Ytown, and then if no torn ligaments/tendons and no broken bones, will likely be a day-to-day thing. Just hope she is able to play. It will help the team, and also would hate to see her career end due to injury.

Last I heard it was just a rolled ankle. Didn't think it was serious. No need to risk her for this game. Rest up for Wednesday

The YSU game recap says rolled ankle and held out for precautionary reasons.

As 0505 mentioned, no need to risk further injury in this game.  Get the training staff to work and have Brandi hopefully ready to go next week.

Consider all the sports teams in America that have jerks and lowlife on their rosters.  They deserve no good fortune whatsoever.  Now look at our women's team that has overachieved on the court and dominates in the classroom (#6 in the nation, I believe.)  They certainly don't deserve this horrible, repetitive bad fortune.  It is perfectly obvious that God is not a sports fan.

To your question, Let's Talk.  I also watched the game but then turned on the radio at the conclusion, hoping for some kind of feedback on the injury.  Nothing.  In fact, I endured the worst post-game interview in a long time, given the circumstances.  It was not Jim Campbell but rather the other guy that does the road games.  Not only did he not ask Boldon about Brown, he actually posed this astounding question: "Coach, do you feel that your team is ready for tournament play?"  Right.  Boldon just lost his superstar and the last front court player on his roster and he had to field a stupid question like that.  That made old Don Gardner seem coherent.

You're right Wick--I tuned in to the post-game broadcast and can't believe how horrible it was. The guy's name is Mike Pilch and I cannot believe he didn't ask Boldon about Brown's injury. What a joke. As an aside for all of the haters, does Brown's injury and the subsequent loss to Detroit make Boldon a bum just like Slocum was after we lost Perry and then to Valpo and Wright St??

Wick250 and Italian Penguin,

I agree, that post game question has to rank up there with the dumbest post game questions of all time. How could a person with half a clue ask a question like that at that given moment????  ::)

As for the God not being a sports fan, maybe YSU athletics is still paying for all the gifts from God that football got during the Tressel days. I mean, YSU football sure seemed to get more than their fair share of other worldly help during that awesome run of success fb

This team sure has had their share of bad luck with injuries, but to their credit they managed to have the best season since 99-00. Hopefully Karen, Heidi and Brandi are all back on Wednesday. It's also good to know it was just a rolled ankle for Brandi. I truly believe YSU will make the HL finals if all 3 players are healthy. And, they have an outside chance at beating GB. Doubtful, but anything can happen, which is why the games are played. Also believe YSU can win at least 1 game in the WNIT. It's been a long time since those of us that follow YSU women's basketball have had a reason to look forward to the post season tournaments..... GO PENGUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk--I would be shocked if Schlegel plays any more this year. Flagg may play with a modified cast. But pray Brown is available. Obviously, that's the biggie.

Nope. Only Slocum is a bum
