Banks Named Regional Player-of-the-Week

Youngstown State senior first baseman Jeremy Banks has been named the Central Region Player of the Week by CollegeBaseballInsider.com, the website announced on March 14.

Banks, who is also the Horizon League Batter of the Week, hit .545 with two doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs in a three-game series at VMI over the weekend. He drew three walks and was hit by a pitch to post an on-base percentage of .667. In Sunday's 10-2 win over the Keydets, Banks hit a solo homer in the first inning and a go-ahead three-run round tripper in the eighth.

Banks leads the Horizon League in in batting average (.463), on-base percentage (.559), slugging percentage (.889), RBIs (24), home runs (5) and doubles (8).

Banks and the Penguins will start a three-game series with Milwaukee on Friday at Eastwood Field. Friday's game will be YSU's 2012 home and Horizon League opener.

This guy has "MLB draft" written all over him. When they see he 'hammered' a Big-10 teams top pitcher ...the attention came. This is a great honor.

Like to see him go to the Pirates. Lord knows they need more young tallent  ::)

Banks will have a great opportunity at the MLB level. He is a hard working kid. A "yes sir" ...."No sir" kinda guy that coaches love. He will maximize his potential. Great job Mr. Banks. You are earning all the good things that are coming to you.
