It depends on whether or not he already been granted an extra year (medical or other). If he did not then he can apply. If he was in his 5th year ...he cannot. If you mean Michigan State ...he returned later in the season and played. If you mean MoSt. ...then my guess would be "no" too far into the season.
Pat only had a Max of 2-years when he transferred (JUCO). I think the transfer takes away the extra year. He saw action in 11-games during 2010 & 6 games in 2011. Seems to me that he is done as a Guin player. Good man. Nice and tall. We need more like that. Would be a good coach for younger players.
