You know, there is a game on Saturday
« on: October 05, 2011, 12:04:17 PM »
The silence on this board about the South Dakota State game is starting to confirm my worst fears about the Indiana State debacle.  That performance drained all the energy and interest out of the program.  The impact on casual fans is especially drastic.  How many of those do you figure watched the Indiana State game on tv: 10,000, 20,000, more?  Of that number, how many turned it off before the end of the first quarter?  Televising road games can play a useful role in stimulating interest.  But it can also smash interest if the team performs as poorly as we did in Terre Haute.

If we were 3-1 I'd more more excited for sure.

But last game was a new take on an old tune....give up a lot of points and lose within the conference. At least we didn't blow a lead.

More disappointed than disinterested. I'll be there but I was hoping for progress from last year, I'm not sure I'm seeing it.

Wick has a valid point. The casual fan sees the Trees of old, not the competitive club they are today. However, I am not convinced ISU can compete with the upper-end of the conference (UNI will tell us this weekend). So that makes me feel that we may not be able to compete with the upper-3 either.

I am always excited about YSU games. However, I have followed the team through thick and thin, where many fans today are like my daughter. She grew up with the 1990's Penguins ...sitting on my lap, and is truly spoiled. I, on the other hand, enjoy watching the progression of the team and players. Also, do not forget we have a new coach, Wolf needs his time to progress as well.

IAA-I think all of us younger generation Penguin fans were spoiled through the 90s. I still support MY school(as with many on this board I am a YSU grad). I sat in the stands through 3-8 seasons, the National Championship years, the Heacock Era. I won't even go there on the many cold games I have sat in. I can remember being in the stands when there was 4,000 people in the crowd. I do know the weather is suppose to be awesome Saturday, so there is NO excuse for people not to go. Plus they are honoring our 91 team.

I was spoiled thru the 90"s and I still am.  I am spending a small fortune to make it up to the game to show my support and I don't really know how good we are yet.

It will be packed! Good game (SDSU is much better than we think) ...good halftime celebration of some of the greatest to ever dawn a Penguin uniform. What more do you need? Sunny and 80-degrees you say? ...okay, consider it done.

I sure hope that 1st quarter disaster against ISU does not hurt the attendance this weekend, because everything else sets up for lots of butts in seats.

Does not matter, really, how we played or did not play against ISU;
if you are a fan, and are behind our team.  Think about it.....two teams
both out to win.....once in a while, it has to be us.  Whether you blame
the team, or the coaches, doesn't really matter.  Everyone of those kids
want a WIN, us or our opponents.  To me, your real value as a FAN, IS
GO PENGUINS.....sometimes you go.....sometimes you don't.

For me.....I'm there for the team.....they are products of their teaching.

Should be a beautiful game day, Saturday.....especially honoring 1991.
Wonder "WHO" all will be there from that 1991 wonderful celebration.
I CAN ONLY HOPE.

OKAY,,,,,GO PENGUINS

That only applies to the diehard fans, and unfortunately there aren't enough of us.  To the casual fan it does matter what happened the week before.  We need a win this weekend or there may not be 10,000 at next week's game.
