Travis Perry Named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week
« on: April 23, 2019, 02:33:27 PM »
Youngstown State freshman Travis Perry has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 21 for his performance against Northern Kentucky, the conference office announced on Monday.

Perry, a right-handed pitcher from Oil City, Pa., struck out a career-high eight batters over 7.2 shutout innings as the Penguins beat NKU 8-2 on Friday. He did not allow a runner to reach third base, and he retired the first 10 Norse hitters he faced. Perry surrendered three hits and walked four batters while throwing 124 pitches as he matched the longest appearance of his career.

Perry has been outstanding in his three starts at Eastwood Field, and he has won each of his last two starts. Dating back to his start against Pitt on March 27, Perry has yielded six earned runs and struck out 15 batters over his last 20.1 innings at home. The Penguins have won each of those three contests, and Perry has earned the win in the last two.

Perry is the first Penguin earn Horizon League Pitcher-of-the-Week accolades this season. Teammate Blaze Glenn has been named the conference batter of the week twice in 2019.

Youngstown State will have two midweek home games before heading to Oakland over the weekend. The Penguins will host Ohio on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and they will play St. Bonaventure on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Eastwood Field.
