Dunn Earns Second Nike Horizon League Player-of-the-Week Honor
« on: January 29, 2019, 12:56:55 PM »
Youngstown State junior forward Mary Dunn has been named the Nike Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 21-27, the conference office announced on Monday.

This is the second time this season that Dunn has earned the award, and it is the fifth time that a Penguin has won it. Dunn was also the conference honoree on Jan.  7.

Dunn averaged 22.5 points, nine rebounds and 2.5 blocks while shooting 72 percent from the field in a pair of Penguins victories last week. She notched her third double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds in Monday's come-from-behind win over Northern Kentucky. The Washington, Pa., native had 10 points and six rebounds in the fourth period alone as YSU outscored the Norse 31-12 in the final 10 minutes. Her five blocks against NKU were the most by a Penguin in a game since March 2015. Dunn then scored 22 points and had seven rebounds in just 18 minutes in Saturday's victory over Cleveland State.

Dunn is averaging 13.3 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 54.9 percent from the field this season. She ranks seventh in the Horizon League in scoring, and she's fourth in field-goal percentage, fifth in blocks, eighth in free-throw percentage and 10th in rebounding. Dunn is averaging 15.7 points against conference opponents, which is the second-best mark in the league, and her .626 field-goal percentage versus league teams tops the chart.

In addition to Dunn being named the Horizon League Player of the Week, YSU teammates Alison Smolinski, Sarah Cash and Chelsea Olson have also earned the award in 2018-19. This is the first season in program history where four different Penguins have been named conference player of the week, and it is just the third time in league history for a team to have four different players earn the weekly award.

Youngstown State continues a five-game homestand with two more contests at Beeghly Center this week. The Penguins will host Oakland on Thursday at 7 p.m., and they'll welcome Detroit Mercy on Saturday at 1 p.m.
