« on: January 02, 2019, 06:46:57 PM »
Youngstown State sophomore guard Chelsea Olson has been named the Horizon League Player of the Week for helping the Penguins earn a pair of conference road victories over the weekend.

Olson was named the player of the week by the league office for the first time in her career, and she is the College Sports Madness Horizon League Player of the Week for the second straight week.

Olson averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, five assists and three steals as the Penguins picked up road wins at Detroit Mercy and Oakland. She shot 61.5 percent overall from the field (8-of-13), 71.4 percent from beyond the arc (5-of-7) and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the free-throw line.

Olson scored 18 points and tied a career high with four 3-pointers in Friday's win over the Titans, and she added six rebounds and six assists. She then scored 15 points, grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds and contributed four assists and four steals on Sunday against the Golden Grizzlies. Olson had 11 points and six rebounds in the fourth period to help YSU outscore the Golden Grizzlies 30-13 and rally for a win.

Olson, a Preseason Second-Team All-Horizon League selection and a member of the Horizon League All-Freshman Team in 2017-18, has been one of the conference's most well-rounded players in 2018-19. She ranks among the top five in free-throw percentage, rebounds, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio, and she's also in the top 10 in 3s per game, steals, blocks and minutes.

Youngstown State will host a pair of Horizon League games in the first week of 2019. The Penguins will welcome UIC to Beeghly Center on Thursday at 7 p.m., and they'll host IUPUI on Saturday at 1 p.m.
