INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State senior Alison Smolinksi led the Penguins to a home win over Saint Francis (PA) on Saturday as YSU improved to 7-2 on the season. Smolinksi led Horizon League women’s basketball in scoring for the week and is the #HLWBB Nike® Player of the Week. Cleveland State freshman Savanna Crockett averaged 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds for the Vikings this week and is the #HLWBB Nike® Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.

Alison Smolinski scored a game-high 23 points as YSU beat Saint Francis U 80-56 in its only game of the week. The senior made six 3-pointers and five free throws for her 23 points after breaking the school record with nine 3s in her previous game. The guard added three rebounds and three assists and increased her season 3-pointers total to 37, which ranks her among the nation's leaders.

Savanna Crockett averaged a team-best 18.0 points per game against Toledo and Marshall and also averaged 9.0 rebounds over the week. The guard finished with a season-high 18 points against Toledo and grabbed eight rebounds then tied her season-high with 18 points at Marshall and grabbed 10 boards for her fifth double-double of the year. The Milwaukee native continues to lead the league in rebounding and ranks eighth in scoring.
