Yep. Has been headed that way for the last couple weeks. Bo was able to seal the deal. I bet this kid is starting halfway through the year.

I know everyone’s high on this guy, but what happened to Cunningham? I thought he was our next stud QB?

From today's Vindy:

Girard QB Waid picks YSU

December 13, 2018 at 12:09a.m.

All-Ohio Girard QB will join Youngstown State family

By Brian Dzenis

bdzenis@vindy.com

Mark Waid got a taste of Stambaugh Stadium this fall and decided he wants to come back for more.

The Girard quarterback has committed to playing football at Youngstown State, the senior confirmed Wednesday night. He made his Stambaugh debut on Nov. 3 in a 34-30 playoff win against East.

He entered the season committed to Fordham, but ultimately decided it was best to stay home.

“I have nothing but respect for Fordham, it’s a great university, but it didn’t feel like home,” Waid said. “When we played East and I got on the field, I got the chills. I just felt like this is where I’m supposed to be.

“It’s special to do this for the Valley and this community with great people and great coaches. It just feels like home.”

Waid, Ohio’s third all-time leader in passing yards, is coming off a 13-2 season with the school’s first appearance in the Division IV state finals, a 42-14 defeat to Cincinnati Wyoming.

Waid will graduate early, enroll at YSU and be able to participate in spring practice. He’ll be reunited with longtime receiver Michael Belcik as well as some of his opponents.

“[Belcik] played a big role, he’s been sending me texts. I have some familiarity with the players and that really helped,” Waid said. “There’s great local talent on the team right with Belcik, [Liberty’s] Dra Rushton and [Warren JFK’s] Jake Coates. It’s a special thing.”

He didn’t express any misgivings about head coach Bo Pelini’s contract status, as his current deal expires in February, saying that “coach Pelini will do what’s best for coach Pelini.”

“[QBs coach Joe Ganz, wide receivers coach Tim Marlowe and offensive coordinator Brian Crist] have a special thing brewing and it’s an offense I see myself in and more importantly, it’s a community I see myself in,” Waid said. “I couldn’t be more excited about my decision.

If he makes it on the field in 2019 with Pelini as the head coach, it will be the first time a true freshman quarterback played under Pelini since Cody Green in 2009 at Nebraska.

Waid passed for 4,376 yards and 48 touchdowns in his final season at Girard. He also rushed for 1,776 yards and 26 TDs.

Wonder where he is going?

DALLAS — Beaver Local senior Garrett Givens will be playing in the annual Blue-Grey All-American Bowl on Monday at AT&T Stadium.

“It’s a great honor to be selected to a national bowl game where I will be able to represent my school and area in Dallas Cowboys stadium,” Givens said. “I believe it would be great to wrap up my senior season with a win.”

Givens, a 6-foot-2, 225-pounder, will be an inside linebacker for the East squad wearing No. 32.

He was selected as one of the top 90 senior high school football players out of 6,750 who competed at the Blue-Grey All-American combines.

Givens has been a four-year starter for the Beavers and three-year captain for the Beavers. He collected more than 350 career tackles, including 101 this season along with 806 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns.

The Beaver Local standout was nominated for the three-day event, by former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Byron Evans.

Givens will be featured during a national media dinner, where he will meet with 24/7 Sports, USA Today, Rivals and the Impact Football Network on the first night.

Practices will be held Saturday and Sunday at South Grand Prairie High.

The game will be carried by the New Impact Football Network with the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

It looks like he doesn't have any offers.

                                                                             40     Bench    Broad jump   Shuttle
Garrett Givens LB  6’2″ 215 Beaver Local 2019 OH   4.82      36              8’2″         4.51

He'll probably go to a big time school. Hell his bench reps are better than 70% of the YSU football team as a high school kid  8)

Never trust high school 40 times. There’s no way this kid runs a 4.51 at his size. Average NFL times for inside and outside lbs are above 4.6

There was a video on line of that kid power cleaning like 325 pounds just blew my mind. I don't think he was selected to the all star game by way of politics. Some kids have know desire to play in college or can't even come close to making the grade. This athlete probably fell into that category

Always hate to see that, but he did have some big time offers. Would have been a nice get.

I’m surprised, at 5-10 175 he’s undersized for an FBS safety, he could certainly see the field sooner at YSU, maybe he’ll be a transfer in 2 years.

a LB, 2 DBs and a long snapper?
-0- OL?
-0- DL?
LB has really good speed and looks and at 6-2 can get weight up to play LB.
Looks like the class of a pretty paltry group.  ( don't recall every signing a long snapper?)
