Ex-YSU GUARD MARCUS KEENE LEADS NCAA D-I IN SCORING
« on: December 13, 2016, 01:23:11 PM »
Marcus Keene, the YSU guard who transferred to Central Michigan last season, leads the NCAA in scoring averaging 31 points a game. In his last two games, Keene scored 40 against Wisconsin-Green Bay and 25 against Illinois. He's shooting 43.8 from 3-point land, 52.5 from the field and 83.8 from the foul line. He averaged 15.6 for the Penguins as a sophomore in 2015 before transferring.

This is even more troubling considering Weber left before he did. I'm assuming he was told to leave, or was threatened with loss of playing time. Why else leave, when the guy you had an incident with is gone?

On a positive note, this team is scrappy and I like them. Disappointing campaign for the women, too many injuries.

Makes me very ill.   I have watched him play a few games on espn 3.   His coach gives him the green light.   Playing 38 min a game with a lot of freedom. Not sure under Slocum he would of had this luxury  ?  Only can dream about a back court with him and Cam.

While he was here Slocum did give him a green light to shoot even in some conference games. But to your point playing time was the potential issuem

I wonder if Keene is playing any defense this year.  Coach and his teammates used to get upset with that part of his game.

Why would they get upset ? Jerry's team have never played ANY defense.

From the article:

Quote
“I knew I couldn’t play after college as a 5-foot-8 2-guard,” he acknowledged.

So he left.

Sure, there were immaturity issues -- off-court problems and times he clashed with the coaching staff. There was also a physical altercation with a teammate in practice when he was a freshman. But Keene said he grew from that incident and claims it had nothing to do with his departure.

All I get from this article is that coach knows hidden talent. We need to stop bringing back old news. Clearly he was young and wanted to be an NBA star & carried a bit of an attitude. Glad he may be growing up.

Guys this is a "who cares" topic.

Why is it who cares?  If he was scoring like this for the Penguins we may win something.

I'm with 1AA, this is a critical football weekend, in a football town, in a football state, at a football university, so who cares about a former BB player that transfered out?
