Basketball Recruiting
« on: April 16, 2013, 08:20:44 PM »
Just in case you guys haven't been caught up, here's how we stand recruiting wise for men's basketball.

Obviously we know PG Marcus Keene is committed.

We had a commitment from 6-4 SG Jalon Plummer out of Romulus, MI. His high school team had 3 other DI recruits and they were ranked top 25 in the nation so he was a little overshadowed. He's an outstanding shooter and I think will compete for playing time next year

We have offered 2 guys also. Kyle Steward, a 6-7 SF from Detroit, MI took his visit to YSU last weekend and from what I heard, liked it very much. He holds an offer from rival Cleveland State and has more visits to attend to before making a decision.

And then we offered 6-11 big man Artis Cleveland. He is originally from Detroit but played his basketball in Birmingham, AL. He's a great shot blocker but needs to put some weight on. Holds offers from smaller schools like Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Buffalo, Seattle, Tennesee State and Western Carolina. This could be the big we are looking for if we can land him.

This would be quite a haul recruiting wise if we can get it done! Webber, Hahn, Johnson, Keene, Beamon, Belin, Plummer, Cleveland, and Stewart in two years.

How many scholarships are stll available?  Seems that with Plummer's anticipated signing, there is only one scholarship left?  Or is someone on the way out?

Cleveland's coach indicates he likely will not sign this week.  Seems he is waiting for bigger offers and at 6-11 he will likely get them

Indy--there were 2 schollies available after Keene signed in the fall. When Plummer signs, that would leave one. Of course, unless someone leaves. Haven't heard anything to that effect....yet.

Thanks IP - so unless someone is leaving, its only one of Steward, Cleveland or some kids we have not even heard of yet.

Hey it would be nice to get a 6-11 kid - but looking at the schools that have offerred, anyone expecting him to come in right away and put up double doubles is setting themselves up for big time disappointment.  Any 6-11 kid YSU gets will be a project - up to the kid and the coaches to develop him.

Even if he did come here, he would sit behind Bobby and Kam for a year anyway so there would be time to develop him. Maybe even redshirt
