Youngstown State senior women's basketball player Brandi Brown has been unanimously voted the Horizon League Scholar Athlete of the Month for December, the conference office announced on Thursday. It is the second straight month that the native of Pomona, Calif., has earned the honor.

Brown scored at least 20 points in four of YSU's six games and collected three double-doubles as the Penguins went 4-2 in December. She scored 25 points in wins against both Akron and IUPUI, and she grabbed her 1,000th career rebound against the Zips. She became the third player in conference history to record at least 1,600 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.

Brown is a two-time Academic All-Horizon League selection and carries a 3.75 GPA in communications studies. She posted a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester as the YSU women's basketball team registered a department-best 3.52 cumulative GPA.
