Huge Weekend for Penguin Sports
« on: October 27, 2012, 09:30:40 AM »
  • Baseball hosts annual fall Red & White game.

  • The Youngstown State volleyball team embarks on its final two-match road trip of the season this weekend when it travels to Chicago to play Loyola and UIC. The Penguins will play Loyola on Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern and UIC on Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern.

  • Also, The YSU men's and women's cross country teams head to the 2012 Horizon League Cross Country this Saturday at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis.. The men's 8k and women's 5k are scheduled to start at Noon Eastern time. The defending champion on both sides, Butler, is no longer a member of the Horizon League. On the men's side the Bulldogs had won 14 consecutive titles while on the women's side, they had won nine of the last 10 titles. So this year's championships will be wide open.

The Lady Pen runners placed second last year while the men will be looking to improve on their seventh-place performance. YSU's top finisher last year for the women was Samantha Hamilton. Hamilton placed third overall but is red-shirting this year and will return to the lineup in 2013.

  • The Lady Pens host Wright State on Senior Day, Saturday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m.. A young squad celebrates  seniors Katie Peterlin and Brittany Hayes

  • The Youngstown State football team will try to end a tough month of October on a high note when the Penguins visit South Dakota State this Saturday. It is YSU's third road game of the month, and the Guins will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Eastern/2 p.m. Central time at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium. The game will be carried on WKBN 570 AM/iHeartRadio with WFMJ TV and ESPN3 airing the game live.
