Youngstown -- Three members of the Youngstown State baseball program have earned awards for accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.

Junior pitcher Blake Aquadro was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team on Sunday for his outstanding performance against Wright State in last week’s tournament. Aquadro allowed three earned runs in 8 2-3 innings against the Raiders in earning the win on Friday. Aquadro surrendered three runs in the first and a solo homer in the second, but the left-hander did not allow another run the rest of the game. YSU rallied for a 5-4 victory to advance and eliminate Wright State.

Sophomore third baseman Drew Dosch and freshman outfielder Jason Shirley have been recognized as part of the College Sports Madness all-league team. Dosch was named first-team all-conference at utility, and Shirley was a second-team honoree as an outfielder. Dosch batted .353 while leading the Penguins with eight home runs and 36 runs scored. At the end of the regular season, Dosch ranked second in the conference in home runs, third in batting average and slugging percentage and sixth in on-base percentage. Shirley hit .303 with 31 runs scored and a team-best nine steals. Only one other freshman in the conference scored more runs or stole more bases.

He batted .381 with 24 hits, 13 runs scored, three home runs, 9 RBIs and two stolen bases during the month. He also had a slugging percentage of .540 and posted a .431 on-base percentage in 16 games. He holds a 4.0 grade-point average as an integrated social studies education major is a Capital One First-Team Academic All-District selection. Dosch is the recipient of the 2011-12 Stephen Bartolin Sr. Scholarship and is a member of YSU’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Earlier last week Jeremy Banks and Drew Dosch were selected first-team all-Horizon.
