« on: February 19, 2020, 06:52:06 AM »
Youngstown State freshman Blaine Brokschmidt and junior Nicole Squatrito were named the Horizon League Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Women's Runner of the Week for their record breaking performances at last weekend's Kent State Doug Raymond National Qualifier and Iowa State Classic, the league announced on Tuesday.

Brokschmidt set the school record in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.92m on his second attempt. The Casstown, Ohio native broke fellow teamamate Wyatt Lefker's record on his way to a third place finish in the event. Brokschmidt heads into the final week of competition prior to Horizon League Indoor Championships with the league's best mark in the event.

Squatrito broke YSU Hall of Famer Becky Rudzik's school record in the 800m by just under one second after clocking a time of 2:11.95 in Heat 2. The Jefferson, Ohio native finished third in her heat and 25th overall in the event. Headed into the Penguins final meet, Squatrito owns the Horizon League's fastest times in the 800m and one mile.

The Penguins will get one final tuneup in prior to the Horizon League Championships next weekend as they travel to Akron to compete in the Al Campbell Invitational on Friday, Feb. 21. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
