Wrenn Named Southland Bowler of the Month
« on: November 09, 2019, 10:59:44 AM »
Youngstown State sophomore Emma Wrenn has been named the Southland Bowling League's Bowler of the Month for October, the conference announced on Thursday. Wrenn is the first Penguin to earn the award since YSU joined the SBL prior to the 2018-19 academic year.

"Emma is a hard worker and a great leader, and her energy empowers all of us on and off the lanes," YSU head coach Doug Kuberski said. "Anytime you win an award from the conference, it's a big deal. We are grateful to be a part of the Southland and appreciate the recognition."

Wrenn became the first tournament MVP in YSU's history when she was the top individual finisher at the Mount Shootout on Oct. 19. She averaged 216.20 at the tournament and topped 225 in three of the five games. In the season-opening Columbia 300 Penguin Classic, Wrenn placed ninth with a 198.40 average and a high game of 236.

For the month, Wrenn posted a 21.07 frame average (21.39 in Baker and 20.73 in traditional) and had an 89.9 fill percentage. She helped the Penguins achieve unprecedented team success as well as YSU earned the program's first two tournament victories.

Wrenn currently leads the Southland Bowling League with a 21.39 baker average and 117 strikes converted.

Southland Bowlers of the Month are voted upon by the league's sports information directors. Voting for one's own bowler is not permitted. To receive honorable mention, a player must appear on 25 percent of ballots.

Wrenn and the Penguins will compete in two more tournaments this fall. They will bowl at the SFA Ladyjack Classic in Kenosha, Wis., on Nov. 15-17, and they'll finish the month at the Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Del.
