« on: May 26, 2014, 09:11:49 PM »
The Youngstown State baseball team will take on overall No. 4 seed Indiana, Friday, May 30, at 7 p.m. on ESPN3 in the Bloomington Regional in Bloomington, Indiana, at the Hoosiers' Bart Kaufman Field.

Stanford and Indiana State are also in the Bloomington Regional. That contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch on Friday.

The Penguins (16-36), who also reached the NCAA Regionals in 2004, won the Horizon League Tournament after beating No. 1 seed Wright State twice, the No. 3 seed Valparaiso and the No. 4 seed Milwaukee.

Indiana, owner of a 42-13 record, is coming off a clean sweep of conference crowns, winning both the Big Ten regular season and Tournament titles. The Hoosiers were 21-3 in Big Ten play and have lost just three games since March 28, each by one run.

Indiana State, the No. 2 seed in the regional, was 35-16 on the year and won the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season crown. Stanford, the No. 3 seed in the bracket, enters the postseason with a 30-23 overall mark and went 16-14 in the PAC 12.

In 2004, the Penguins went to the Austin Regional and faced the overall No. 1 seed Texas and also faced TCU.

Youngstown State Head Coach Steve Gillispie, who is in his second season at Youngstown State, went to three NCAA Tournaments as an assistant coach at Jacksonville State.

Tough regional. Believe it or not, this is the first time a Big-10 team has ever been seeded ...the Big-10 is not a power conference in baseball. Indiana State is the best team in this regional. People were shocked that Stanford got in.  We are playing so good, I really hate to split the starters, but O'Brian was a stud in the HL tourney in that semi-final. I would love to see ISU take out Stanford in the opener, then we get a shot at them should we lose to IU. Indiana plays long-ball ...much like UIC used to do. You have to win on the mound & infield by trying to keep everything on the ground. Our staff is very much set up for that ...I have good feeling about this.  :)
