Softball Picks Up More Postseason Hardware

The Youngstown State softball team picked up more postseason awards following its 30-win season. Collegesportsmadness.com named Miranda Castiglione the Field Player of the Year, Casey Crozier Pitcher of the Year, and Sarah Dowd Freshman of the Year. Also senior Samantha Snodgrass was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team.

Castiglione, Crozer and utility player Sarah Ingalls were named to the website's All-Horizon League First-Team. Dowd and senior Courtney Ewing were second-team selections.

Castilgione, the 2014 Horizon League Co-Player of the Year and NFCA All-Midwest Region Second-Team selection, finished the season with a .395 batting average, 10 doubles, 10 home runs and a school-record 43 runs scored. She is just the third player in school history to collect at least 70 hits and the fourth to hit at least 10 home runs.

Crozier, the 2014 Horizon League Pitcher of the Year, won a league-best 19 games and set the YSU single-season strikeout record with 196. YSU's all-time leader with 60 wins and 565 strikeouts, Crozier's 19 victories also rank second on the school's single-season list.

The 2014 Horizon League Freshman of the Year, Dowd batted .270 with six doubles, seven home runs and 29 runs batted in.

Ingalls, an All-Horizon League Second-Team pick, batted .281 with seven home runs and 31 runs batted in.

An All-Horizon League Second-Team selection, Ewing finished the season with a .318 batting average and collected a hit in 36 of the last 41 games.

Snodgrass, 2013 All-Horizon League Second-Team selection, was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team for the second straight season. Snodgrass batted .500 with two home runs during Penguins three tournament games.
